Import & Export from/to the MemoPad
One important feature is the capability of import and export of checklists from and to the MemoPad. In this way, checklists can be edited and archived on the PC and they can be shared with other PalmPilot users.
Please Note: If you only want to backup your lists, not edit them on the PC, just use the normal hotsync procedure. This will create a file named CheckItDB.PDB in your backup directory on the PC. This file can be reinstalled on the PalmPilot like any other PDB file in case of a data loss.
Export
To export a list to the MemoPad, select the list and then select "Export" from the menu. This will create a note in MemoPad in the category "unfiled" with the same title as the exported checklist. The syntax of the note is as follows:
Title
[_] 1 an item
[_] 1 another item
[·] 1 this item was checked
[_] 1 an item|with a note text
[_] 2 an item with another priority
[_] 1 an item
that spans
several lines|and also has
a note with
more than one line.
[_] 1 an item
Import
Import can be done in two ways: You can import a list as a whole (in the main view select "Import list" from the menu) or the imported items will be added to an existing list (in the checklist view select "Import items" from the menu). After selecting the menu command, a list of all Memos appears. Select one and tap "Import". Or tap "Cancel" to abort the operation.
The export-syntax should be kept when editing lists on the PC. However, the Import feature is quite flexible to correctly read in other syntaxes, too:
Checklist name
· Item|note
· another item|another note
· an item without note
· an item
that spans
several lines|and also has
a note with
more than one line.
· an item
You could also use "-" to mark the items:
Checklist name
- Item|note
- another item|another note
- an item without note
- an item
that spans
several lines|and also has
a note with
more than one line.
- an item
You can omit any mark for the items. In this case, however, you cannot have items with more than one line. The first line will be taken as the title of the checklist.
